Folding Dreams

DESCRIPTION

Folding Dreams shares a story on how humble beginnings create a legacy. The artwork derived inspiration from the history of Mustafa. In 1965, Mustad Ahmad’s father, together with his uncle, started a small shop selling food. However, they switched from a food shop to a retail shop as they noticed Ahmad’s enterprising activities with the first retail product sold: Handkerchiefs. The artwork depicts a makeshift handkerchief store where these handkerchiefs become folded into massively big ‘Handkerchief cranes’.

Through Folding Dreams, Lim hopes that despite difficult times, we will be reminded of such stories where we will continue to act upon our dreams. Using Mustafa’s first retail item folded into cranes, she hopes this would inspire people to give simple ideas a go and observe how it becomes fruition. How one humble handkerchief business has become a place where everyone goes to for their 24/7 needs.
